Getting to know Neil Becker

I primarily work with adults and young adults suffering from depression, anxiety, and addiction, as well as those struggling with relational and communication issues. I take a highly personal, strengths-based, and positive approach tailored to each client's individual needs. In addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which directly targets negative thoughts, I use an acceptance-based approach by encouraging clients to accept, rather than negate, current thought patterns so they can move toward their values and start living meaningful and productive lives. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I also use EMDR to reprocess maladaptive cognitions through gentle guided eye movements, helping clients become healthy and adaptive. This approach effectively reduces the negative impact of trauma, including PTSD. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Connecticut, a Juris Doctor from Emory University, and a Bachelor's degree from Duke University.

My general nature, enhanced by social work values, makes my therapeutic interventions highly person-centered. I am also able to advocate for my clients and help them realize meaningful and achievable goals due to skills developed over a 20-year career as an attorney.
