Getting to know Nicholas Lubeck

Hi there, I'm Nicholas! I am a Licensed Profession Counselor (LPC). I work with adults with a focus on individual counseling for mental health and relational issues, as well as couples/marital counseling. My approach I am comfortable molding the theories used toward the needs of the client but typically work within the scope of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Gottman Method. My focus I work with adults facing mental health/relational issues as well as couples/marriage therapy. My communication style I desire to create a calm, safe environment for my clients in which they can feel able to be vulnerable and honest. I allow the client to help determine pacing and direction, with a desire for the client to feel as though they are engaging in therapy together with me, rather than feeling as though therapy is being done to them. My journey to mental healthcare I discovered my desire to become a therapist after my own journey in therapy and the impact it had on me. Working through my relationships, stress, anxiety, and panic attacks helped me discover an internal desire to help others through similar circumstances. My goals for you Goal setting is done together with the client, using the prompt, "I know I'll be done with therapy when...". This is similar to the "Miracle Question". This is done over the course of the first two questions, allowing the client and myself to establish goals and create a plan to get there collaboratively. My first session with you The first session is focused on rapport building, getting to know one another, and walking through the "Miracle Question" in order to begin establishing goals for therapy.
