Getting to know Nicholas Weidner

Hello, my name is Nick Weidner. I am a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, Sarasota, and hold a Bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University. As a therapist with over a decade of experience specializing in trauma and addictions, I bring a unique perspective shaped by my years of service as a police officer. My counseling practice is grounded in a holistic approach that honors the mind-body connection and recognizes the whole person—emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I integrate evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with mindfulness practices to help clients develop greater awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience. Whether you’re navigating the impacts of trauma, struggling with addiction, or facing anxiety and depression, I offer a supportive and structured environment where healing and growth are possible. My practice is especially attuned to the needs of first responders and others who live and work in high-stress environments. I am committed to walking alongside my clients as they rediscover strength, meaning, and hope in their lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

With a background in law enforcement and a deep commitment to mental health, I bring a unique perspective to my work as a therapist. Before becoming a clinician, I served as a police officer, where I encountered firsthand the toll that high-stress environments, trauma, and addiction can take on individuals and their families. This experience shaped my passion for helping first responders, as well as those struggling with the impact of violence, PTSD, and substance use. In addition to my work with first responders, I have extensive experience working with violent offenders and individuals facing significant trauma. I understand the complexities of human behavior, including the cycles of addiction and the deep wounds left by abuse, loss, and crisis. My therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness, alongside a spiritual component for those who seek it. Recognizing that healing is not just psychological but also emotional and spiritual, I provide a space where clients can explore faith as a source of strength and resilience. Whether working with first responder personnel, veterans, individuals battling addiction, or those carrying the weight of past trauma, my goal is to foster healing, growth, and renewed purpose. If you’re looking for a therapist who understands the unique challenges of high-risk professions, the impact of violence, and the power of faith in recovery, I am here to help.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

1. We start by getting to know one and another through conversation- trust is built upon transparency, authenticity, and reliability. 2. We investigate the problem areas of your life- what are the variables impacting you- both conscious or unconscious. 3. We examine character strengths- you have done life thus far, lets highlight the things you do well and assess further capabilities. 4. We explore goals for therapy- This gives us direction, focus, and how we later assess progress. 5. We WORK; applying my past training and experience in many different therapy modalities to assist you in making positive life changes. 6. Assess- I check my ego at the door, if you do not feel like progress or change is being made, I will help you find another therapist.
