Getting to know Dr. Nicole Edwards

NOW OFFERING REMOTE COUPLES THERAPY & INIDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR WOMEN. From the outside, your relationship may look fine—but between the two of you, something isn’t working. You’re stuck in the same arguments, feeling disconnected, or walking on eggshells. You may care deeply about each other and still feel frustrated, resentful, or unsure how to move forward. I’m Dr. Nicole Edwards, Founder of SolRiver Counseling. I work with couples who want real change—not just communication tips. Many of the couples I support are capable, committed, and well-intentioned, yet caught in recurring conflict, power struggles, or emotional shutdown. I am currently working toward becoming a Certified Relational Life Therapy (RLT) practitioner, trained in the model developed by Terry Real. While I am not yet certified, my work is strongly informed by the RLT framework. Unlike traditional couples therapy, RLT is not neutral; I actively intervene in service of fairness, accountability, and relational health—naming harmful patterns while supporting both partners in showing up from their best, most relational selves. My style is warm, grounded, and direct. I will support you, but I will also challenge behaviors that keep the relationship stuck. This work IS for couples who: - Feel stuck in recurring conflict or emotional distance - Want honest, direct feedback—not just validation - Are open to accountability and change - Want a therapist who will actively intervene This work is NOT for couples who: - Want a neutral therapist who avoids taking sides - Are unwilling to examine their own impact on the relationship and take appropriate accountability. If you and your partner are ready to stop going in circles and do meaningful relational work, I invite you to reach out for a consultation.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a relational therapist, my approach is open-minded, compassionate, and direct. I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are seeking support around relationship challenges such as communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, boundary struggles, power imbalances, and unresolved wounds from past relationships or early experiences. This is a space where you can speak freely and honestly—without fear of judgment. In our work together, I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your relational patterns at your own pace. My style is collaborative and empowering. We’ll look at the emotional, psychological, and relational dynamics that are shaping your experiences so we can get to the root of what’s happening—not just manage surface-level issues. I’m not here to “fix” you—because you’re not broken. I’m here to help you understand what may be getting in the way of healthy, fulfilling connection and to support you in showing up with greater clarity, confidence, and integrity in your relationships. If you’re ready to deepen your relationships and create more meaningful connection, I’m here to walk alongside you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In my relational therapy practice, I take a collaborative, client-centered approach that prioritizes emotional safety, clarity, and meaningful progress. From the beginning, I work to create a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly about relational concerns—whether they involve communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, emotional distance, boundary challenges, power struggles, or the impact of past experiences on current relationships. In our first session, we’ll begin by discussing your goals and what brought you to relational therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand your personal history, relationship patterns, current challenges, and overall emotional and relational context. From there, we’ll work together to develop a treatment plan that aligns with your needs and values. A typical session may include open dialogue, psychoeducation about relational dynamics, processing past experiences, identifying unhelpful patterns, and building practical tools to improve communication, accountability, and emotional connection. I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches—tailored to your individual or relational needs—and we move at a pace that feels supportive and sustainable. Relational therapy is not about assigning blame — it’s about increasing awareness, strengthening relational skills, addressing what’s getting in the way of healthy connection, and supporting you in showing up more fully and intentionally in your relationships.

I used to think something was ‘off’ with my libido—turns out, it was just buried under stress, shame, and a lack of real guidance. Nicole didn’t just hand me a flashlight; she helped me rewire the entire circuit. Our sessions felt like both a science class and a soul talk. I’m now having the most connected, satisfying sex of my life—and more importantly, I finally feel at home in my body.
I started seeing Nicole during a time when I was overwhelmed with anxiety, burnout, and self-doubt. What stood out right away was how deeply she listened—she remembered small things I said and brought them back in meaningful ways. She helped me recognize patterns in how I was constantly overextending myself, and we worked on boundaries that actually felt doable. Nicole also taught me how to regulate my nervous system during panic spirals, which has been a game-changer. I feel more grounded, self-aware, and capable than I have in years.
I reached out to Nicole because I had never been able to orgasm with a partner, and it was starting to impact how I viewed myself sexually. Through our work, I began to understand the deeper layers behind that—performance anxiety, cultural messaging, and lack of real sex education. Nicole offered practical strategies and emotional support that finally helped me experience pleasure on my own terms. It’s been incredibly empowering.

I came to sex therapy carrying a lot of shame from religious guilt and body discomfort. Dr. Edwards made it feel safe to talk about things I’d never said out loud. One of the biggest shifts came when she helped me understand the difference between what I thought I should want and what I actually desire.
