Getting to know Nicole Heavilin

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor Designation in Ohio. With nearly 12 years of experience in the field, I have had the privilege of working in diverse settings, beginning my career in an agency where I supported individuals facing a wide range of diagnoses. For the past six years, I’ve transitioned to offering counseling via telemedicine, which has allowed me to meet clients in their own environments, fostering comfort and openness. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey, and my goal is to empower you as we navigate the challenges you may be facing. I specialize in helping individuals through difficult transitions and rough patches in their lives. My approach is compassionate and empathetic, focusing on building a supportive therapeutic relationship. Having experienced my own challenges, I understand the importance of having a safe space to share and explore feelings. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply feeling overwhelmed, I am here to listen and provide support and equip you with tools to help you navigate this difficult time. I look forward to working together to identify your strengths and cultivate resilience on your journey toward healing and self-discovery.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that understanding and genuine connection form the foundation for personal growth in therapy. My approach is rooted in creating a warm, affirming, and empowering environment where clients feel safe to express themselves and open up to the possibilities of change. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities tailored to the individual in front of me. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strength-based practices, humanistic approaches, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), positive psychology, behavioral therapies, and Gestalt techniques, I adapt my methods to best fit each client’s unique needs and circumstances. I view my clients as the experts on their own lives, and my role is to provide a supportive space and effective tools that facilitate their journey toward achieving their goals. I particularly enjoy working with clients dealing with stress management, anxiety, and depression, as well as navigating family relationship challenges. Additionally, I have a passion for supporting those experiencing grief, bereavement, and trauma. Together, we will explore your experiences, develop strategies for coping, and work toward a fulfilling path of self-discovery and healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

It is my goal to create a warm, accepting environment where you can focus on your personal growth and meet your goals. I use techniques that are tailored to each client. I like to provide some education on topics related to what you are dealing with, pulling from CBT, focusing on your strengths and meeting you where you are. Clients can expect to take away the following from our sessions: 1. Enhanced Self-Awareness: Through reflection and exploration, clients will develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their behaviors, empowering them to make informed choices. 2. Coping Strategies: They will acquire practical tools and strategies tailored to their individual situations, helping them manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges effectively in their daily lives. 3. Strengthened Relationships: Clients will learn techniques to improve communication and resolve conflicts, fostering healthier relationships with family members, partners, and friends. 4. Resilience Building: They can expect to cultivate resilience and adaptability, gaining the ability to navigate future challenges with confidence and strength. 5. Achieving Goals: By setting clear, achievable goals together, clients will be supported in their journey toward personal growth and fulfillment, making measurable progress in their lives. 6. Empowerment: Most importantly, clients will leave sessions feeling empowered and capable, equipped with insights and skills to tackle life's obstacles and pursue their aspirations.
