Getting to know Nicole Shrieves

My name is Nicole Shrieves, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of California. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I provide individual therapy to adults experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety related to trauma, systemic oppression, ancestral and generational wounds, racial injustices, domestic violence, sex trafficking, grief and loss, aging, and other life stressors. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly. I earned my Master's in Professional Clinical Counseling from Argosy University, which equipped me with the skills to support diverse clients effectively. My therapeutic approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, tailored to you as an individual. I believe in using multiple therapeutic modalities to support your healing journey, while recognizing that some approaches may not be appropriate for BIPOC clients. I primarily work with women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals, survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking, first- and second-generation immigrants, and older adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, acute stress, and PTSD. My communication style is calm, empathic, and easygoing, creating a safe and comfortable space where you can freely share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It is important to me that anything that arises in therapy can be addressed openly. My journey to therapy began in childhood with a desire to help others. Initially, I pursued pre-med studies but realized early on that the sight of blood was difficult for me. Fortunately, I discovered an elective psychology class that I enjoyed and switched my major. During graduate school, I noticed that systemic oppression often contributes to mental health symptoms, yet many therapeutic theories and approaches do not adequately address this, especially for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. This realization deepened my commitment to providing therapy and creating a safe space for people in these communities.
