Getting to know Nicole Smith-Foley

Hi there, I'm Nicole! Hi! My name is Nicole Foley. I am a licensed Master-level social worker with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Louisville. I have over 25 years of experience working with individuals with behavioral modification needs. My approach When working with clients, I utilize the cognitive-behavioral approach. We work on undesired behaviors through behavior modification techniques using both positive and negative reinforcements. I like to emphasize the theory that changing one's thoughts impacts feelings and behaviors. My focus The individuals I work with have diagnoses in areas such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, and autism-to name a few. In addition, I have experience working with teens diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder. Recently, I have been working with individuals who have experienced divorce and are looking to date again. My communication style Working with me is like talking with a good friend over coffee. I am attentive and caring. My younger clients often say I'm like the cool Auntie. Working in a school setting keeps me abreast of kids' lingo and current events related to young people. My journey to mental healthcare I enjoy helping people find a pathway through life's trials and tribulations. This field of work is rewarding because it allows me to reach individuals who thought things were not possible and help them see things as possible. My goals for you I ask clients about their expectations from therapy. Together, we explore reasonable goals, address obstacles, and celebrate small and big achievements. My first session with you Our first session will be a getting-to-know-you session. We will explore upbringing, pitfalls, patterns, and where the client sees him/herself within a specific time frame.
