“When I started with Nicole, she told me that the goal was for me "not to need therapy forever". At that point, no part of me believed her or even wanted to believe her. Three years and one pandemic later, moving from weekly to bi-weekly to monthly to now as-needed, my time with Nicole cannot be understated. I would recommend her to anyone looking to grow through difficult problems and lean into what can be better about their day to day life. ”

Getting to know Nicole Smith-Perez

Mae Wellness provides a safe space for women to focus on their mental and emotional health-a space free of judgment where the only expectation is a desire to craft something different for yourself. Our therapists take an active, solution-focused approach that is highly goal-oriented and designed to hold you accountable. We believe it's important to expand beyond just exploring feelings and also talk about what's next and what's possible with improved tools and a different outlook. Our team includes professionals trained at Fordham University, where they earned a MEd in Mental Health Counseling, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, bringing a strong foundation in both mental health and justice perspectives to support your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect to be met where they're at while being challenged to grow in a non-judgmental space . We place emphasis on identifying strengths and developing tools and skills that clients feel confidant using and know are effective.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After scheduling a session, you can expect to receive intake and insurance (if applicable) documents to complete via email before your appointment. It is required that all forms be completed 48 hours after an appointment is booked or it will be canceled. It is mandatory to have an active credit card on file for payment. During the initial session, we will discuss in depth what is bringing you to therapy as well as desired outcomes and expectations. If we both determine we're a good match, ongoing sessions will be scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis depending on your needs and availability.

Nicole is professional and considerate, she provides excellent advice, learning more about me and what will work best for my needs. I've been seeing her for two years and she's been integral to helping me through some very difficult times. I highly recommend her!
I highly recommend this therapist. She is caring, listens and understands. She helps guide you to the answers you are seeking.
Nicole is a wonderful therapist and it's a pleasure to speak with her every appointment. She's very thoughtful and easy to talk to -- obviously that's part of the job as a therapist -- but for someone like me who was new to therapy she just put me at ease with a natural rapport that she cultivates. And I appreciate her approach to therapy as well, which is a focus on helping me achieve actual results and change. It's been a great experience so far.
Nicole is incredibly supportive and kind. She has made me feel comfortable from day 1. She is attentive during our sessions and provides great feedback. Highly recommend!
Nicole is a great provider! I have been a client for almost 4 years and she has always given me sound advice that always helps me reframe my situation. It's often hard to find Black Women mental health professionals, and Nicole is definitely one of the best out there!
I am so grateful for Nicole! She was available during a time in my life where I was most afraid to ask for help. She has been patient and insightful. I always leave our sessions much better than I began.
I couldn’t have asked for a better therapist. Nicole is attentive, caring, and dedicated to supporting her patients. HIGHLY recommend!
Nicole is warm, empathetic, and a great listener. That alone is a winning combination in a therapist, but she also excels in coming up with small, measurable action items to impact my life in meaningful ways. In working with Nicole, I have been able to see myself in a more compassionate light, and have been able to separate myself emotionally from difficult situations I have little to no control over. Her kind and pragmatic approach allowed me to meet myself where I was, and always feel empowered to make the smallest of changes, whether in thought or action, even throughout various personal traumas. She has never made me feel judged or minimized, and I truly feel like she's in my corner. I could not recommend her highly enough.
I have been a client for approximately 3 years. Nicole is an amazing therapist. She is a great listener, empathetic, and she understands me and my life experiences very well. She is always punctual and responsive. The systems that she uses make it very easy to get join appointments, get reminders, as well as make payments. If you are looking for a therapist, Nicole is my recommendation.
Nicole is a fantastic therapist! She combines kindness and empathy with structure and knowledge in a way that has vastly improved my life.
