Getting to know Nida Ahmed

Great to meet you! I have extensive experience in crisis intervention, post-traumatic stress management, and suicide prevention. I've been very fortunate to work with an incredibly diverse group of clients, including those who are part of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. Prior to private practice, I worked in a community-based mental health clinic as well as a crisis line. I get to help people learn more about themselves and better their lives; in the words of Ina Garten, how great is that? I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from St. John’s University, which has provided me with a strong foundation to support my clients effectively. A bit about my approach to therapy My approach to therapy is very solution-oriented. I believe there should be a point to therapy—whether it is to gain insight, build confidence, or gather the tools you need to get through the many challenges life can present. If we can get there using humor, science, and determination—all the better! What you can expect from our first session The therapeutic relationship is very important, especially in the beginning stages. It can be helpful for you to have a general sense of what you hope to process or build upon in your life, but this can also be a collaborative process. Generally, I provide a very motivating foundation in session, and it is one of the many tools I hope to share with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Life is tough, it is challenging, and it can break your heart in many ways. I understand that, but I believe I tend to be optimistic and positive in my approach.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am a firm believer in a collaborative therapeutic relationship. A typical session can have you review any stressors or major challenges throughout the week, process your feelings about it, and understand which coping skills or tools you can use to help you feel more in control and increase your awareness.
