Psychotherapist

Victorious Counseling Services was started in 2019 by Nik Protasenia. Nik is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC1) in Massachusetts, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey. He holds a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Cambridge College, an EdM in Counseling from Boston University, and a Bachelor’s from Montclair State University. Nik enjoys getting to know his patients and is committed to eliminating the stigma many feel about counseling. After working in various treatment settings, Nik opened his own practice to help people and do it his own way—an example of self-actualization he encourages in his patients. As therapists, we are cautioned against excessive self-disclosure because counseling is the client’s time. However, I encourage everyone to be candid and share their story, so if you know a little about me, you might understand why I believe counseling is vital and the best gift you can give yourself. I am a licensed counselor and advocate for mental health and physical wellness with a decade of experience in psychotherapy and related fields. I have helped clients achieve breakthroughs, recover from trauma, improve self-esteem, move toward self-actualization, and build better relationships. I am also just a regular guy. I love reading, cooking, spending time with friends and family, playing hockey, swimming, yoga, running, bike riding, and striving to improve myself every day. I aim to be positive but never let that override my sensibility or ability to face life’s harsh realities. I like to think my niche or specialty is working with men, though it is not the only population I serve. Nikolas Protasenia is a Licensed Professional Counselor, license number 37PC00770500.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide candid and honest feedback, and once we can be honest with each other the real work will begin. I am hoping to learn as much as I can about you, and that will require you to tell me your story about what you're thinking, what you're feeling, what you've been through, and what you're willing to do. Telling story gives us context, and once I know the context about you it will allow me to point you in the direction that you are wanting to go into. I also will never force you to do anything you do not feel comfortable with, however, you will feel a little uncomfortable in order to make necessary change in your life. I believe that therapists are like firemen; you never see them until something has already gone wrong. That does not mean that you will be stuck in your current situation. Let's work to get you back on the road to victory!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session we won't be doing much therapy. I like to give a patient a quick overview of what the services might look by going over each one of the consent forms. The consent forms include Informed Consent, Bill Of Rights, Releases of Information, Social Media Policy, Late Cancel/No Show policy, and Telehealth Consent. Next, I'd like to get a good overview of your background by doing a Biopsychosocial Assessment. This is where we like to know about everything about you from birth until now. It will be important for me to know if you have ever received therapy before as well as any pertinent medical, social, legal, or occupational issues you may be having. I am an active therapist, which means that I will engage with you and ask questions during our clinical sessions. I will encourage you to challenge yourself, and I do offer homework to patients that are willing to do it. My favorite modalities of therapy include REBT, CBT, Narrative therapy, Solution Focused, and Motivational Interviewing.
