Getting to know Dr. Norma Charles
Dr. Charles is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Kansas where she received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and master’s in counseling respectively.She is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, and she is also licensed as a clinical psychologist in her native home state of Louisiana.She received her doctorate (Psy.D.) and a second master’s in clinical psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Charles has worked in numerous facets of Mental Health to include both residential and outpatient services, private practice, Employee Assistance Programs with diverse clientele. Her first professional job as a civilian was in Neu Ulm, Germany where she worked for the Department of Defense as a substance abuse counselor. She has worked twice for both the Department of Defense and the VA Healthcare Systems. In addition, she has provided public service also to university settings, private mental health agencies. Dr. Charles oined the CAVHCS family in October 2021 as one of two Program Managers-Supervisors or Outpatient Mental Health Services.She wears numerous hats to include but not limited to serving as the Clinical Consultant and Liaison to the VET Centers in Montgomery, AL and Columbus, GA.Dr. Charles is an Air Force Veteran who has served activity duty military, Veterans and their families in the areas o general mental health, SUDS, PCT, Geriatrics, Sexual Abuse and Trauma, EAP.In her spare time, she enjoys traveling , attending cultural and musical events, dancing, gardening, cooking for and spending time with family, friends and her two precious rat terriers, Fee-lay and Bazil.
