Obinna Onyegesi, LCSW, LCDC

Psychotherapist
TX
Obi is a therapist and researcher who takes a whole-person approach to care, looking beyond symptoms to understand your story, identity, culture, and lived experience. In therapy, he offers a space where you don’t have to perform or have everything figured out. You get to be honest, human, and supported. Obi works with preteens, adolescents, and young adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, self-image, and substance use. Many of his clients carry multiple pressures at once, including family expectations, cultural or religious messages, grief, and the feeling of needing to hold it all together. Obi’s role is to help untangle these layers with care, clarity, and intention. His approach is grounded in Narrative Therapy, with integration of CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, and the Socratic method to support insight, emotional regulation, and choice. As a dual-licensed clinician (LCSW, LCDC), he also supports individuals navigating substance use, harm reduction, and the shame that often accompanies it. His style is collaborative, direct, and curious, offering both support and gentle challenge. Obi is Nigerian and Italian and is especially passionate about working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA clients navigating identity, culture, and belonging. Outside of session, he is a doctoral student at The University of Texas at Austin and an NIH T32 Research Training Award recipient, with research focused on health disparities and adapting evidence-based therapies to better serve diverse communities. At Full Intentions, Obi’s goal is to honor your story, affirm your identities, and support healing with clarity and intention.
