As a person with a diverse cultural background, I recognize how hard it can be to unlearn negative beliefs about ourselves that are so deeply ingrained we may not always even be fully aware of. I also know how intimidating it can be to try to find a therapist with whom you feel safe to open up, and I understand that many have had negative experiences in therapy where they didn’t feel fully understood. My therapy style is warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental. I seek to build a strong relationship in the therapy room where you feel supported, understood, and empowered. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Southern Methodist University. Ofelia Chapa is supervised by Cortnee Wright.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach life’s struggles with a sense of pragmatic optimism. I truly believe that each person is unique and has the capacity to heal, grow, and develop into their fullest selves. I understand and recognize that each individual’s lived experiences influence the ways in which they experience the world. As a therapist, I will work with you to acknowledge the ways in which your life experiences have affected you while building your internal resources, such as self-understanding and self-compassion. It is my belief that you have the ability to discover and utilize your strengths, identify your passions and purpose so that you can show up in your life the way you envision.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic approach is eclectic in that I work with you to identify your needs and utilize evidenced-based modalities that are most effective based on your needs as an individual. In session, we work to create a customized approach that builds on strengths and helps create a reliable platform for meaningful growth. I integrate a number of techniques including mindfulness and other skills that can be used in everyday life.
