Getting to know Ofra Markowitz

My name is Ofra Markowitz and I'm a licensed clinical social worker specializing in individual, couples and family therapy. Since I started my studies and thereafter, I have immersed myself in understanding the link between brain systems/gut connection and their effects on behaviors, including brain plasticity. I have worked with adolescent children and adults in inpatient psychiatric units, school settings, assisted living facilities, and currently In private practice. I am working with a broad range of clients. Amongst my areas of expertise are childhood Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, PTSD, Marital conflicts, Divorce, Loss and Grief, women’s health, aging, and more. I am a dynamic, solution-focused, psychodynamic therapist, who promotes self-care and mindfulness. Building relationships is the essence of successful treatment. My therapeutic approach provides support and practical responses in a non-judgmental, empathic environment, so that clients can effectively address their personal life challenges, build on their strengths, overcome painful and overwhelming memories, and accomplish their personal goals. I am warm, engaging, and profoundly empathetic. I was born and raised in Israel and served in the Israeli Defense Forces. I have lived in United States for over 30 years now, and experienced working in the TV/Film industry prior to arriving at my current field. I had worked in research and published on the Effects of Gender and Type of Abuse on Attitudes toward Domestic Violence; the poster for which was accepted for presentation at the 2011 annual meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in Boston, Massachusetts. I am fluent in English and Hebrew.
