It’s pronounced “oreet,” and it means “my light.” It’s fitting because I’m passionate about shedding an honest light on what’s truly going on for women at the deepest level of their trauma, so they can move on from their past and create lasting loving relationships. It took me over 20 years to realize that what I went through as a child was trauma. My family dismissed my pain, telling me I was moody, overreactive, and “just want attention.” If only I knew earlier, I wouldn’t have sabotaged so many past relationships with partners and friends. It was a HUGE relief to finally understand I DID experience trauma and wasn’t just damaged goods. I needed to rewire my nervous system to get out of overprotection mode and enjoy the most amazing relationship I didn’t think was possible. We store trauma deep inside our bodies, and our nervous system becomes overreactive to tiny triggers, as if past danger is still a threat today. Like when your partner doesn’t text back and you threaten to break up. It’s an impulsive reaction to a reminder of a time when your needs weren’t acknowledged and you were violated. For the body to truly believe it’s safe to trust and love, we must access trauma from non-verbal parts of the brain and release it through the body. Some react with anger, others freeze or shut down. That’s why you saw your parents have raging fights, but you go silent and freeze during conflict with your partner. If you don’t resolve the past, it’ll keep haunting your body. You can put a band-aid on an infected wound, but it’ll fester beneath the surface until fully cleared. With a Master’s in Dance Therapy from Pratt Institute, I combine movement and therapeutic techniques to help women access and release trauma stored in their bodies, guiding them toward healing and lasting connection.
