Dr. Paige Lowe, PhD, NCC

Psychotherapist
3130 W Maple Loop Dr, Ste 201, Lehi, UT
Hi, I am Dr. Paige Lowe, and I hold a PhD in Counseling from the University of North Texas, as well as a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. In addition to being a therapist, I am also a professor at a local university. In my clinical work, I see clients across the lifespan, but I specialize in working with children ages three and up and their caregivers. I use a play therapy modality when working with children and an expressive arts modality when working with teenagers. When working with children, I like to involve the parents in therapy. Sometimes, this means family therapy; other times, it means monthly caregiver consultations. I believe this time helps connect the whole family, resulting in systemic change. In addition to this, I specialize in working with people who are experiencing cancer and chronic illnesses. I work extensively with people who have lost someone to cancer and help them navigate death and grief. Outside of this area, I work with many families experiencing high-conflict divorces. Sometimes, this means I see the whole family; other times, I see one of the children. When working with the whole family, I help establish communication patterns, develop healthy coping skills, and support co-parenting. When working with children, I help them understand their feelings related to divorce and develop self-compassion. If you’re interested in working with me, please reach out!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from a systems perspective. Specifically, I draw from Virginia Satir's therapeutic model. What this means is I view your world from a holistic standpoint. A great metaphor for this is the idea of a target; the inner core of this is your feelings, your emotions, and how you view the world; the next ring outside of that is your systems of support, like your family, your children, your friendships; the next ring out is your environment which includes your spirituality, where you live, how you grew up. From this perspective, I help you understand your core beliefs about yourself and how your systems of support may have influenced your feelings throughout your life. When working with me, the expectation is to explore your feelings through sharing stories about your childhood up to your current life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In a typical session, you decide what we talk about. You may begin with something that has been bothering you today or about something from your childhood. You may share a story about your experiences, and from there, I will ask you open-ended questions to help you explore your feelings about a situation more deeply. After we get to know each other for a while, I will start to see patterns in your stories and share them with you when they come up. by identifying these patterns, you'll be able to be more integrated with your feelings through having a deeper understanding of your coping style When working with children, I recommend ten sessions at a minimum. During these ten sessions, I like to meet with the caregivers around 3 to 5 times.
