Getting to know Pamela Duncan

Pam is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the "R" psychotherapy privilege, licensed to provide diagnoses and psychotherapy to individuals experiencing behavioral health concerns. Pam earned her Masters in Social Work degree from SUNY Albany in 1997, and her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and studio art from SUNY Oneonta in 1992. For the last 29 years, Pam has been working in the mental health field. She began her career working on an inpatient psychiatric unit. Following this Pam worked as a psychotherapist in an outpatient mental health clinic. For the last 8 years, Pam continued to provide direct care but also shaped new therapists to become better clinicians by performing her dual role as a clinical supervisor. Pam has a vast array of experience with differing populations, including those with thought disorders, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, PTSD, anxiety disorder, and depressive disorders to name a few. Pam practices with a wide range of treatment modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and solution focused therapy. Regardless of the treatment modality she is using, Pam believes that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for successful treatment.

I chose this provider because of her experience that was listed on Zocdoc. If I would have known my experiences in life would cause her to speak down to me I would have scrolled right by. The visit lasted maybe 20-25 mins before I told her I didn’t like the her attitude or the way she was speaking to me. She made me feel very rushed and like I couldn’t fully explain things. I was on edge the entire time because of the way this provider conducted themself. Then after answering a question truthfully I was first questioned and made to feel like I was lying then after explaining what happened her whole demeanor changed this provider made things even more uncomfortable and I knew right there that this wasn’t going to be a good fit. When I was able to fully explain something without feeling rushed I was questioned like I wasn’t being truthful. How this provider had a job is beyond me because they do not create a safe or comfortable environment

It was my first appointment, so it was an intake appointment. However, she is kind and smart, and I can’t wait to work with her!

Even tho the first visit is just intake, I am excited for further appointments, Pam is so nice and I can tell just from that first visit she made me feel very comfortable and validated in my concerns.
