Getting to know Pamela Pollack

I have always been interested in working within the mental health field. I enjoy working with people and helping them find direction in their lives. It is important for individuals to have a nonjudgmental person who allows them to share how they think and feel. With a Master's in Social Work from the University of Houston, I am able to offer that supportive experience, which always makes me feel as though I am helping someone create a better life for themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When a client comes into session, I provide them with the space and opportunity to share. I acknowledge what they say, express what I hear them saying and then ask them if this is accurate. If it is not accurate, then I ask for clarification to help me understand. Once I understand, I am able to help support them through whatever issue they feel they need to discuss.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For me to build a strong therapeutic alliance with the client, I ask permission to complete a biopsychosocial. I then allow the client to ask any questions of me that would help them feel more comfortable with knowing who I am. I provide a strong, supportive environment and provide feedback with always asking what they think as we are talking. I allow the client the space to feel that they can communicate anything as there is no judgment. I encourage them to understand that therapy sessions are about them and they control what they are comfortable with discussing. There is no pressure to discuss what they do not want to discuss.
