Patricia (Patty) Dumont, LCSW

Psychotherapist
FL
I help adults and adolescents with anxiety, depression, self-esteem/worth, grief/loss, and relationship issues process their thoughts, actions, and behaviors so they can achieve their goals. My goal is to create a safe and secure environment filled with compassion, warmth, and empathy. I want every person who meets me to feel accepted. It isn’t easy to ask for help or to trust a stranger with intimate details of whatever problem(s) they are facing. I take the trust placed in me very seriously. There is no one approach that will be effective for everyone, as therapy is tailored to your specific needs. Because of this, I utilize a variety of techniques such as CBT, DBT, and Solution-Focused Therapy, to name a few. We will work together to develop a plan to address your needs and goals. I have many years of experience with adolescents and the unique challenges they face, as well as working with parents and families. I have gained my clinical skills in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as crisis intervention. I have also worked within both acute care and palliative care on the medical side, giving me a unique perspective on the importance of an integrative approach aimed at treating the mind and body. I have over 17 years of experience as a therapist and treat individuals, couples, and families. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Florida Gulf Coast University and my Bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College. I look forward to working with you!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initially I aim to obtain needed information to understand the challenges that you are facing and also as much about you as I can. Moving forward, we will work together to give you the tools needed to address your goals. Each session is designed to allow for processing, identifying strategies that may be helpful, and oftentimes, I will suggest some things/work to do in between sessions so that you are getting the most out of each session. I welcome feedback from all clients and realize that some strategies may not be effective, in which case we will explore some other possible strategies as we seek to equip you with a variety of tools to access as there is no one skill that can be used in every setting, so having a variety is important
