Getting to know Patrick Brown

I work with teens, early in life adults, college students and young professionals on overcoming anxiety, stress, and perfectionism as they navigate life. My clients often feel like they can't turn off their worry, feel like they are constantly supporting others but no one is looking out for them, fear rejection or judgement and find it hard to connect with others, have a harsh inner critic or just feel unsure of their path in life. My therapy approach provides a warm, curious, and genuine connection, where you are safe to explore and change. I help my clients face their anxiety in a supportive environment, learn skills to communicate effectively and cope with stress, quiet down their inner critics, and learn how to use what matters to them to make their path in life clear.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I firmly believe the client-therapist relationship is key to successful outcomes. My approach is person first, after all I help people, not diagnoses! I strive to create a warm, accepting, and safe atmosphere for my clients. Clients have described me as friendly, empathetic, humorous, and genuine; and often leave sessions feeling heard and with new skills to help them reach their goals. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach with some therapy techniques from ACT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. I also work with clients on exposure exercises. When you seek therapy with me, treatment goes at your pace and we work towards goals important to you!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I always begin with a free 15 minute phone or video call, where I get a little more background as to why you're seeking therapy. If we both agree I am a good fit for you, we schedule an intake session and begin our work together. If you feel I'm not a good fit for you - no sweat! I don't mind providing referrals to help you start your therapy journey. I hold these calls at the time you schedule your Zocdoc booking. I utilize Simple Practice for all documentation and telehealth sessions. Simple Practice is secure and HIPAA compliant. I utilize Headway for billing purposes. At this time I only offer virtual sessions, but am aiming to begin providing in person sessions as my practice grows. You must be able to join sessions in the state of New Jersey for me to work with you.
