Psychotherapist
IL
Hi there, I'm Patrick! I explore clients' life circumstances that are currently causing frustration, anxiety, depression, and lack of fulfillment. I assist clients in listing desirable things missing from their lives that can possibly increase their sense of fulfillment. I help clarify and prioritize values, then develop a plan that includes activities to increase satisfaction and fulfill those values. Together, we brainstorm possible sources of support for overwhelming responsibilities. I encourage clients to implement changes that reduce their burden, reinforcing their successes. I also help teach communication skills such as active listening, empathy, and maintaining eye contact. I assist clients in clarifying their identity and meaning in life by listing their strengths, positive traits, talents, potential ways to contribute to society, and areas of interest and ability that have not yet been developed. We explore opportunities to overcome feelings of isolation, such as joining community recreational or educational groups, becoming active in church or synagogue, enrolling in exercise groups, or joining hobby support groups. I explore clients' feelings, coping mechanisms, and support systems, and assess the depth of depression, anxiety, or grief, including suicide potential. My approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. My focus is on each client's unique issues. I accept all clients without bias and recognize that everyone's mental health challenges are distinct. My communication style is warm, open, and accepting of clients' perceived problems, opinions, and ways of thinking. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University. My journey to mental healthcare is simple: helping others.
