Getting to know Patrick Cornelius

Hello, my name is Patrick, and I served three combat tours, dedicating nine years as a United States Marine. After my service, in 2013, I decided to serve those struggling with mental illness. Following five years of study and schooling, including earning my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University, I began my career in 2017 at a dual-disorder treatment center. There, I conducted intensive inpatient and outpatient groups, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy to treat mental health disorders. Today, I specialize in an eclectic approach that considers holistic interventions addressing the human dynamic. This means examining a person’s relationships—or lack thereof—their cognitive schemas, behaviors, habits, and priorities to determine how treatment plans and interventions will be formulated. I explore a person’s self-concept and holistically assess how their behaviors, thoughts, and patterns contribute to their problems and overall functioning. The skills and tools of a therapist are the personal characteristics they bring into therapy: empathy and active listening. These aren’t just attributes that look good on paper but are verbal and nonverbal forms of communication. It is these skills that I believe enable successful outcomes in therapy.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
