Getting to know Dr. Patrick McMunn

Dr. Patrick McMunn is a skilled psychotherapist who offers virtual sessions through his private practice. He earned his PhD in Psychology from Walden University. Dr. McMunn helps individuals activate their inner strengths to navigate personal challenges and is a member of the American Psychological Association. He understands how avoidance can leave people feeling stuck and overwhelmed. His therapeutic approach involves exploring these patterns with compassion and care. Dr. McMunn works with each client to move toward discomfort with resilience, fostering meaningful growth and emotional healing over time.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with individuals, couples, and families facing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions. In our sessions, you can expect open, honest conversations that empower you to make lasting, positive changes. My goal is to help you understand yourself better, process emotions effectively, and create a life that aligns with your values and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initially, I work with normalizing and validating how someone is feeling coming into a session, and explore thoughts and emotions that come up for them. As they are comfortable with moving forward, I utilize a combination of cognitive-behavioral strategies, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and/or psychodynamic modality (or possibly others). It really depends on the person, their experiences, and available coping skillsets, how I use the combination of strategies. If the individual is looking for deeper support or uncovering, I am well-versed in more complicated grief therapeutic models.
