Getting to know Paul (Andy) Martin

I specialize in trauma therapy, including complex PTSD, childhood trauma, and the lasting effects of growing up in chaotic or abusive environments. Many of my clients are high-functioning on the outside but struggle with anxiety, depression, compulsions, or feeling stuck in patterns shaped by the past. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and EMDR-DeTUR, an approach that helps reduce urges and compulsive behaviors. My work focuses on helping clients process trauma, reduce distress, and create lasting change—not just insight. I also work with couples using the Gottman Method, helping partners navigate communication breakdowns, recurring arguments, and emotional distance. Many couples feel stuck in the same patterns—misunderstood, disconnected, or unsure how to repair after conflict. Together, we focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and creating a stronger, more secure connection. I have experience working in intensive settings treating substance use and mood disorders. I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University–Central Texas and a BA in Psychology and Philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin. My style is interactive, direct, grounded, and compassionate. I offer a supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions while building on your existing strengths. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or impacted by past experiences, therapy can help you move forward with more clarity and confidence. Before booking, please note that I do not prescribe medication or provide psychological testing or formal assessments (including evaluations for ADA accommodations or firearm licensing). If you are seeking medication management or medication consultation, I recommend connecting with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. For psychological testing or assessments, a licensed psychologist would be the most appropriate provider.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in trauma therapy for individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or impacted by past experiences. Many of my clients are high-functioning or overachievers who are burned out, struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or patterns they can’t seem to break. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a research-supported approach that helps process trauma, reduce distress, and create lasting change. I also work with couples using the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach focused on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and strengthening connection. I work with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and OCD. My style is active, collaborative, and focused on helping you move forward with clarity and confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions begin with checking in on what’s come up since we last met. From there, we focus on what feels most important—whether that’s current challenges or deeper patterns shaped by past experiences. When appropriate, we use EMDR to process and resolve those patterns, helping you respond differently in the present. My approach is collaborative, focused, and adaptable to your needs.
