Let's get started! I am always eager to meet people who want to make changes and enjoy seeing the progress. My approach I like to work in a client-focused way. Everyone comes to therapy looking for a change, whether it is how they feel internally or how they act outwardly. My goal is to help them identify how they want to change and then provide skills and strategies to help them achieve this. The pacing of the therapy is dictated by the client's preference. My focus Since my therapy is solution-focused, I try to help clients create a clear picture of their desired changes while offering various skills and strategies to get there. The client is the leader of the treatment team. Strategies, skills, and decisions are all dictated by what the client wants and how they want to grow. My communication style I see the client as the expert in their life and problems. As a result, I strive to understand from the client their needs and desired goals. I ask a lot of questions and explore barriers to change. In this process, I always try to offer encouragement, strategies, and possibilities that can help them grow. I am clear, direct, and encouraging. My journey to mental healthcare As a peer counselor in college, I discovered that I had a knack for helping people through difficult times and enjoyed seeing their growth. That encouraged me to pursue the training and education needed to make this my career. I have been working in this field continuously for 25+ years and love what I do. My goals for you Setting goals requires careful listening. Often, people know they want to make changes but have trouble identifying the specific things that need to change, beyond just feeling better. Once goals are clear, the exploration of evidence-based approaches is offered to help them reach their goals. My first session with you First sessions can be a challenge.
