Psychotherapist
NE
Hello, my name is Paul Heft. I am an Independent Mental Health Practitioner, treating a variety of mental disorders from daily stresses to mood disorders and psychosis. Whatever part of the spectrum you fall on, I focus on the whole person—body and mind. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, which has shaped my understanding and approach to mental health care. My approach Some issues respond better to certain approaches, as do individuals. Some people benefit from short-term, solution-focused methods. Other times, a behavioral shift is needed. We often neglect the unconscious parts of ourselves, which frequently guide our choices without awareness. I also believe in approaches that value the present moment and how we can grow in the here and now. My focus I work with everyone but find a special connection with the LGBT community, relationships, and severe mental illness. My communication style I value being direct in the moment, which respects the client’s time. I avoid pushing approaches that don’t match the client’s inner experience. I enjoy interpersonal work examining how we experience ourselves in others. My journey to mental healthcare I have always been the listener for my friends. I also took psychology classes in high school and college. It seemed logical to combine the two. I believe people can benefit from therapy even on their best day. My goals for you Goals are something I check in on throughout each session. Goals change, as does life between sessions. I seek measurable and realistic goals in collaboration with you. My first session with you The first session explores your goals, identity, and current blockades. I will screen for symptoms of mental illness. I believe the body and mind are inseparable, so we will assess those areas of wellness as well.
