Psychotherapist
1905 Berkeley Way, Room 2, Berkeley, CA
When seeking help for anxiety or other mental health related issues, having an attentive, engaging, and grounding presence can be the first step towards healing. I have experienced it as a therapist and as a client. It is my intention to provide this presence for those I serve. When I work with someone, I attempt to understand the unique challenges they are seeking help with, as well as the strengths they already possess. In the process, my hope is to collaborate together to bring attention and awareness to aspects that may not have been known or previously forgotten. This may give rise to an experience of feeling more emotions that were difficult to do so at the outset. In doing so, thought processes and memories may transform in a healing manner, allowing for the experience of feeling more whole as a person.

Getting to know Paul Rubin

When seeking help for anxiety or other mental health related issues, having an attentive, engaging, and grounding presence can be the first step towards healing. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is to embrace the unknown. When I work with someone, I believe it is most important to keep in mind that they know themselves better than I do. Furthermore, I believe we tend to not realize that we actually know more about ourselves than we may initially think we do, but may just need to cultivate our own empowerment through self-awareness in relationship to a trusted other in order to recognize this. I am an integrative clinician with various frameworks in mind, such as Analytical Psychology (also known as Jungian), Psychodynamic, Existential-Humanistic, Somatic, and Relational. People may come to therapy focused on a specific issue, but sometimes, more is revealed in the process that was not known from the outset of what other issues there may be. Provided that, a list of issues I encounter when working with clients are in my profile. This list is not exhaustive and may not include something that could come up in the course of therapy.
