Getting to know Pearl Robinson

Throughout my 17+ years of experience in the field of social work I have worked closely with at-risk youth, young expecting African American mothers and their families, and children experiencing crisis and trauma. I’ve sat with clients in their discomfort, observed disconnection, and through those experiences, I have come to appreciate the power of resiliency. I received my bachelor’s degree at Texas Southern University in 2007 and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work in 2009. My experience includes working at a Level 1 Trauma Hospital, residential treatment facilities, after-school programs in low socio-economic communities, the non-profit sector, and psychiatric facilities in and around Harris County. I have worked with trauma, crisis, grief and loss, death and dying, psychiatric issues, character education and development, and adolescent issues, including sexual orientation and identity. I am currently a doctoral candidate, and my research focus is Exploring Burnout Among Women Of The African Diaspora Through the Lens of Internalized Oppression: Crafting an Anti-Oppressive Scale for Clinical and Community Use. I hope to develop a measurement tool to assess burnout, specifically for women of the African diaspora. As a therapist, I have a warm yet real approach. I operate from a solution-focused framework, which has helped clients muddle through uncertainty, discover their power, and courageously use their voice. I am proud to have extended myself to private practice.
