“I've had negative experiences in therapy before, but Peter was instantly validating and helpful even in our first session. I felt like he immediately had ideas and ways for me to achieve my goals in therapy. He was extremely validating in the sense that my goals are achievable, but realistic about how much work I would need to put in. I look forward to our future sessions and work together; I never thought I would be excited about therapy!”

Getting to know Peter Vernezze

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) living in Arizona and licensed in Arizona and Utah. More than two decades ago, I wrote one of the first books attempting to apply the insights of Stoicism to modern life (Don’t Worry, Be Stoic: Ancient Wisdom for Troubled Times). The ensuing years have witnessed a veritable Stoic renaissance, with best-selling books such as How to Think Like a Roman Emperor and Ryan Holiday’s mega-popular Daily Stoic website. But reading alone will not make you a Stoic, nor wishing it to be so. By integrating modern psychotherapeutic techniques with ancient wisdom, I help clients apply the insights of Stoicism to the problems they are facing.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
