You don't need someone to just nod along while you vent. You need someone who can see what's driving the anxiety, the anger, or the distance in your relationship, and knows how to change it. Anxiety and relationships. That's where capable men get stuck. That's where we begin. I've been a licensed mental health counselor since 1992, working full-time in private practice since 2004. Most of my clients are capable, successful men who look fine on paper and feel anything but on the inside. They're managing careers, families, and pressure most people never see, and something underneath it all has stopped working. I'm trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through the Beck Institute in Philadelphia. I've also completed Level III training in the Gottman Method, along with additional training in infidelity, so I can work with what's happening in your head and what's happening between you and the people closest to you. I also draw on Polyvagal Theory and trauma-informed care, so we're not just talking. We're paying attention to what your body and nervous system are already telling you, in your posture, your breathing, your face, the things words don't say. I'm currently the only therapist listed with Connor Beaton's ManTalks "How To Work With Men" program. I also developed my own framework, the REAL Connection Reset, to help men regulate their reactions, engage instead of withdraw, and lead their relationships instead of getting stuck reacting inside them. Sessions with me are direct. I'll tell you what I see, without judgment or wasted time. You'll leave with something concrete to work on, not just something to think about. Clients who work with me generally aren't looking to be fixed. They're looking for someone who can help them understand themselves clearly enough to lead their own lives again, at work, at home, and in their relationships. If you're tired of managing symptoms and ready to change what's underneath them, I'd be glad to work with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Coming to therapy doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It usually means you've been carrying more than you were built to carry alone, and it's time to get some of that weight off your shoulders with someone who understands what that takes. This is a space where you don't have to perform or protect an image. What's said here stays between us, and you set the pace for how much you share and how fast. Therapy with me is a partnership. I don't work on you, I work with you. You know your life, your relationships, and your history better than I ever will. My job is to bring training, structure, and an outside perspective to what you already know, not to hand you a diagnosis and a script. That means you're encouraged to push back. If something I say doesn't land, or you think I've missed what you actually meant, say so. I'd rather be corrected than have you sit quietly agreeing with something that isn't true for you. Some of the most useful moments in therapy happen when a client tells me I got it wrong. In our first few sessions, we'll spend time figuring out what you actually want to get out of this, together. Not vague goals like "feel better," but specific things: managing anger before it costs you something, understanding why you shut down in your relationship, or figuring out what's underneath the anxiety that never quite turns off. We'll check in on those goals as we go, and adjust if what you need changes. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the Gottman Method, and an understanding of the nervous system to guide the work, but the sessions themselves are conversations, not lectures. I'll ask direct questions. I'll tell you what I notice, including things you might not see about yourself. None of it is meant to catch you out or make you feel small. You don't need to have the right words, a clear diagnosis, or even a clear idea of what's wrong to start. You just need to be willing to show up and be honest, including when you disagree with me.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Most first sessions aren't about digging into your whole life story. They're about figuring out what actually brought you in right now, the specific thing that made you decide to pick up the phone. That might be anxiety that's gotten louder, an argument that won't stop repeating, or realizing you're reacting the same way you always have and it's not working anymore. We start there. The second session usually moves into your history: not every detail, but the patterns, relationships, and events that shaped how you handle stress, conflict, and closeness today. This isn't about relitigating your childhood or spending months in the past. It's a focused pass to understand why certain reactions got built in the first place, so we're not guessing at what we're actually working with. Once we understand where a pattern came from, we can usually work faster on changing it, not slower. From there, sessions are conversations, not lectures. I'll ask direct questions, and I'll tell you what I notice in the moment, in your tone, your posture, what you avoid saying. We build specific goals early and check on them regularly, so you always know what we're working toward and whether it's actually working. This is talk therapy, but it's practical. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the Gottman Method to give sessions structure and direction, not just an hour of open-ended conversation. You'll leave most sessions with something concrete: a shift to notice, a conversation to try, a pattern to watch for. Some clients come in with a clear goal. Others just know something isn't working. Either way, the process adjusts to where you're starting from, not the other way around.
