Hi there, I'm Philip! Hello, I am Philip Nekai, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who earned a Master of Science in Multi-Cultural Counseling from California State University, San Diego. My goal is to offer compassionate and evidence-based therapy to my clients, and I achieve this by building a trusting therapeutic relationship with them. I use a variety of techniques, including motivational interviewing and trauma-informed counseling, to help individuals facing different social-emotional challenges such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, substance use, and post-traumatic stress disorder. My primary focus is to support my clients in their journey toward personal growth and healing. My approach My approach to therapy is personalized to meet the unique needs of each client, drawing from a range of theoretical approaches. Some of the most commonly utilized approaches in my work include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. CBT focuses on identifying and challenging negative thoughts and behaviors to promote positive changes in emotions and behaviors. DBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop skills for emotional regulation and distress tolerance. Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes empathy, positive regard, and non-judgmental acceptance to create a safe environment for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings. SFBT identifies and builds upon clients' strengths to create positive change, while Psychodynamic Therapy explores how early life experiences and unconscious processes influence current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It's important to note that my therapeutic approach is adaptable and flexible, as I believe in tailoring the treatment to meet each client's specific needs and preferences.
