Getting to know Philomena Haghighi

Hello, I'm Philomena, a Licensed Social Worker committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy in a supportive and collaborative therapeutic environment. I believe that effective therapy begins with understanding each individual's unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Because every client is different, I develop personalized treatment plans tailored to each person's specific needs and circumstances. I earned my Master's degree in Social Work from Monmouth University through a specialized program focused on children and families. My clinical approach recognizes the impact that family systems, relationships, culture, and intersecting identities have on emotional well-being and overall functioning. I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel empowered to explore challenges, develop insight, and work toward meaningful change. My therapeutic style integrates evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions. I work collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and develop practical strategies for managing life's challenges. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, or relationship difficulties, I am committed to helping you build resilience, achieve your treatment goals, and create lasting positive change. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward improved mental health and overall well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin therapy with me, you can expect a collaborative, compassionate, and individualized approach. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences at your own pace. My clinical background includes working in a private nonprofit special needs high school, an inpatient adolescent substance abuse rehabilitation program, and an outpatient private practice. These experiences have given me extensive experience supporting adolescents and young adults facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, self-esteem concerns, behavioral difficulties, mental and physical disabilities, and identity development. I understand that adolescence and young adulthood are periods of significant growth and transition that can often feel overwhelming. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, build healthy coping skills, increase confidence, and navigate life's challenges with greater resilience. I also value the important role that families play in the therapeutic process. Having facilitated family therapy in both school and inpatient settings, I work to strengthen communication, establish healthy boundaries, and help family members better support one another while fostering lasting, positive change. Above all, I want my clients to know they will be met with empathy, respect, and a genuine commitment to helping them reach their goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, individualized, and centered on each client's unique strengths, experiences, and goals. During our first sessions, I take the time to get to know you—not just the challenges that brought you to therapy, but who you are as a person. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that reflects your values and what you hope to achieve. My approach is warm, supportive, and evidence-based. I utilize therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness techniques while tailoring interventions to meet your individual needs. Throughout our work together, we'll identify patterns that may be contributing to your concerns, strengthen healthy coping skills, and work toward meaningful, lasting change. Outside of the therapy office, I enjoy spending time in nature by hiking, going to the beach, and caring for my cats and dogs. I believe that connecting with the outdoors can be a powerful tool for improving emotional well-being, reducing stress, and increasing mindfulness. When appropriate, I encourage clients to incorporate nature-based practices into their daily lives as an additional way to support their mental health and overall wellness. Above all, my goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward greater emotional well-being and personal growth.
