What should a new client know about working with you?

What New Clients Should Know About Working With Me: My priority when working with new clients is to create a welcoming, safe space where they feel seen, heard, and respected. I strive to be fully present and empathetic, building trust through active listening and genuine connection. Confidentiality is something I take very seriously in my work with clients. I adhere to strict professional standards to protect client privacy. No information will be disclosed without written consent, except in situations involving risk of harm to the client or others. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions to ensure accessibility and flexibility. Therapy can feel intimidating at times, but I am here to walk alongside clients and support them throughout their journey. Together, we’ll explore what’s most meaningful to them and develop a personalized plan to meet their unique goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Typical Process for Working With Clients: In our initial sessions, I focus on building rapport and gathering a comprehensive understanding of the client’s background, history, and current concerns. We’ll set clear expectations and collaborate on identifying therapy goals. Based on presenting symptoms and needs, I may utilize assessments and reference the DSM-5 to guide diagnosis and rule out alternatives. From there, we’ll explore symptoms, triggers, and coping strategies. I’ll help create a tailored treatment plan and begin using therapeutic modalities, such as CBT, to reframe unhelpful thoughts and patterns. We’ll also explore past experiences, identify unhealthy coping mechanisms, and work on developing healthier alternatives. I often assign optional homework to deepen insights and allow clients to apply strategies outside of session. Psychoeducation is also a key part of my approach, empowering clients with knowledge and understanding about their mental health. Throughout the process, I check in regularly to evaluate progress and ensure the therapeutic approach remains effective. If needed, I adjust the approach based on client feedback and therapeutic outcomes. As therapy progresses toward its conclusion, we’ll review the client’s achievements, reflect on growth, and prepare for next steps. I’ll also provide referrals and additional resources when appropriate to support continued success.
