I work with people who struggle with intense emotions, have difficulty regulating their mood, and experience challenges in maintaining stable relationships. This often includes individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder or high emotional complexity. What can help are practical tools and support to manage emotional highs and lows, decrease distress, and build resilience. Our goals in therapy are to gain better control over our reactions, improve our sense of self, and develop healthier ways of coping. We all want to feel understood and supported so we can work toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Getting to know Quincy Phipps

I work with people who struggle with intense emotions, have difficulty regulating their mood, and experience challenges in maintaining stable relationships. This often includes individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder or high emotional complexity. What can help are practical tools and support to manage emotional highs and lows, decrease distress, and build resilience. Our goals in therapy are to gain better control over our reactions, improve our sense of self, and develop healthier ways of coping. We all want to feel understood and supported so we can work toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Growth and healing is fostered when we feel accepted and heard. I show up for my clients with an inclusive, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental approach to sessions. I meet you with a supportive and open attitude as you explore your authentic self and grow into your potential. We can get there by learning and then practicing new coping techniques that can improve your quality of life while working to understand the patterns that may have led you to seek support. Together, we can develop a new path with less suffering and a better understanding of yourself and your limits.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You don’t have to have a single creative bone in your body to benefit from art therapy directives. The use of art in our sessions can be included into any other modality, which is what makes it so great! Sometimes it can be difficult to find the words for really painful emotions or experiences. This is just one of many cases in which using an expressive medium (such as painting, sculpting, drawing or writing) can be just as helpful as traditional talk therapy. Also, trying new and scary things can help us grow as humans. Taking a closer and slower look at what has shaped who you are can help in discovering where to begin to heal. In one-on-one therapy with me, I practice with the idea that you have innate strengths and resiliency that has gotten you this far. You also know yourself far better than anyone else, my role is to guide and support you as we create a plan for getting to where and who you want to be.
