Quinn Funn, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
As a young Black therapist, I hold deep respect for the resilience and complexity that each client brings into the therapy room. My path into this profession was shaped by both personal and professional experiences that taught me the importance of being truly seen, heard, and valued. I understand what it means to navigate spaces where your identity, your feelings, or your struggles may not always be fully understood. Because of this, I aim to create a therapeutic environment where clients can experience both safety and challenge a space where you can feel supported while also being encouraged to grow. I specialize in helping clients work through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, and issues of self-worth. I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals who feel “stuck” in old patterns of thought or behavior, as well as those who struggle with balancing the weight of others’ expectations with their own needs and desires. For couples, I provide a space to learn new ways of communicating, resolving conflict, and reconnecting emotionally. My therapeutic style is collaborative, empowering, and grounded in cultural awareness. I often draw on evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change maladaptive thoughts, but I also integrate mindfulness, strength-based approaches, and narrative work depending on your needs. Beyond techniques, though, I believe the relationship we build is the most powerful tool for change. Therapy with me isn’t about judgment or hierarchy, it’s about partnership.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy is a big step, and my goal is to create a space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered. Clients describe me as warm, direct, and encouraging I’ll listen with compassion, but I’ll also gently challenge unhelpful patterns so you can move toward growth. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and strength-based approaches, but I tailor each session to your unique needs. Together, we might work on managing anxiety, reducing negative thinking, improving communication, navigating relationships, or building self-worth and confidence. As a young Black therapist, I bring cultural awareness and inclusivity to my practice. I understand how identity, systemic pressures, and family expectations can shape your mental health, and I honor those realities in our work. Above all, I believe therapy is a partnership. You already carry the tools to heal and thrive I’m here to help you uncover them, sharpen them, and use them with confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions include a diagnostic assessment as needed, followed by talk therapy focused on the client’s presenting concerns and treatment goals. Evidence-based strategies may be introduced, and clients may be encouraged to practice skills between sessions to support progress.
