Hi there, I'm Rachael! My name is Rachael Sanowski, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from the Metro Detroit area, currently working with clients throughout Michigan via telehealth. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Wayne State University. I have experience working in an urban integrative healthcare setting, walking with clients through times of anxiety, depression, grief, relational conflict, and existential crises. I also have experience working with children and adolescents with autism and ADHD diagnoses, supporting their growth in empathy, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and socialization. My approach I take an integrative approach to therapy and use techniques from a variety of counseling theories (such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) to help clients grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. My focus I enjoy working with clients of all ages who find themselves in an existential or relational crisis, which may be accompanied by stress, anxiety, depression, or addiction, and are ready to face some hard realities and learn powerful ways of moving forward in love and freedom. As a former high school teacher and school counselor, I enjoy connecting with young people and exploring with them their likes and wishes, as well as the relationships they care about and how to be healthy in them. My communication style I value reciprocity and unconditional positive regard in the therapeutic relationship. For me, this includes both therapist and client asking thoughtful questions and listening thoughtfully to the answers. It means freedom to be honest, sometimes humorous, always compassionate, and curious.
