This is a difficult time to navigate, and sometimes a therapist is the best person to assist someone facing these challenges. The client’s main issues would ideally include adjusting to entering adulthood, college, becoming a working adult, or moving out; finding appropriate ways to communicate; and struggling with self-esteem. This client would want assistance in all three of these areas to feel comfortable entering a new stage of life. My approach to helping a client involves identifying their strengths and how they can use those strengths moving forward. I assist them in exploring and recognizing how their past has shaped them. By understanding their past relationships and self-perception, I utilize CBT to explore their personal values and vision of success. Prioritizing yourself can be hard, but it can also change your life! If you are feeling down mentally, it is helpful to recognize that you need to give yourself time to heal in order to move forward. Having a comfortable therapeutic space to do so can alleviate the pressure of handling everything on your own.
