Getting to know Rachel England

I'm Rachel and I'm glad you're here. I work with adults and teens virtually throughout California and in-person in San Francisco. I specialize in complex trauma, attachment trauma, grief, relationship issues, anxiety, and self-worth. If you've talked and thought about your struggles enough and are ready to get to the root of what's happening, I'm here to support you in going deeper with work that addresses what lies beneath conscious awareness. My guiding philosophy is that all your feelings and behaviors make sense and are adaptive responses to what you've experienced. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine relationship, so I show up authentically and bring my whole self to our work. I'm an active and engaged therapist who offers attuned support while also gently challenging you when the moment calls for it.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a relational therapist, which means I focus on what unfolds between us in real time. In our sessions, I'm not just noticing what you're saying but how you're saying it, your body language, and what's alive in the space between us. What emerges between us often reflects your deeper patterns, giving us rich material to explore together. I combine this with approaches based in neurobiology such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Somatic Therapies that heal trauma at its source. Therapy is most powerful when it feels like a genuine relationship, so I show up authentically and bring my whole self to our work. My role is to guide you toward discovering your own answers and trusting your inner wisdom. I believe I'm doing my job well when I help you slow down your experience, connect meaningfully to yourself and reclaim agency in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

***After completing all necessary items on Zocdoc, you will receive an email to set up an account on both Headway and Sessions Health. You will need to complete all paperwork on both platforms one day before our first session. If we are meeting virtually, I will send you a recurring video link through Zoom before our first session. If we are meeting in-person, I will send you directions on how to get to the office space.*** Our first session is about us getting to know each other and creating a foundation for our work together. You'll share your story, what's bringing you to therapy, and what you're hoping to gain from therapy. From there, we'll begin working together toward your goals. Sessions with me feel relaxed and conversational, like you're talking to a fellow human who just happens to have a graduate degree in counseling psychology.
