Getting to know Rachel Leslie

Rachel received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University – Central Texas. She is an active member of the Texas Counseling Association, Texas School Counselors Association, and Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Her professional experience includes small group and individual counseling in the school setting with preschool through 5th grades, as well as small group counseling for women. As a professional school counselor, Rachel has worked with individuals and groups on issues such as divorce, depression, anxiety, anger management, grief, family dynamics, physical and sexual abuse, and adolescent transitions. She works with parents, students, and educators daily to help increase student success in education. With over fifteen years’ experience working with children and families, she provides both individual and family therapy. Rachel’s background as a former teacher enables her to facilitate collaboration between the school, parent, and child. She utilizes a variety of counseling techniques from a wide range of theories, working most heavily from the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) standpoints. Both therapies help people overcome irrational, dysfunctional, and unhealthy thought processes that tend to add to and prolong emotional strain and tension. Message from Rachel: “I understand that making the decision to contact a counselor can be difficult. My goal is to make the counseling process as welcoming as possible. My counseling style is relaxed and collaborative in nature. I will take every measure to ensure that my office is a safe place for clients to freely laugh, cry, or express anger as they need. I believe that people not only experience stress from external life events but also from the internal thoughts about events that shape their view of reality. It is the thoughts concerning my client’s life story that we will process together to create a path to healing.”
