What should a new client know about working with you?

Rachel provides neuroaffirming, trauma-informed, and LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and is dedicated to creating a space where clients can show up fully as themselves. She uses a blend of expressive and evidence-based modalities, including play therapy, sand tray, creative arts, and trauma-focused CBT, adapting her approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Her background includes work in school-based settings and community mental health, where she has supported children and families through individual therapy, group therapy, parent support, and crisis intervention. Rachel holds a BA in Psychology from Binghamton University and an MSW from the Catholic University of America.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions will be about me getting to know you and why you are coming to therapy. I will help you tell your story so that I can understand who you are, your history, and your current life satisfaction. We will then discuss what you want to change and how I can help. From there, we will typically start with weekly sessions of talk therapy that will focus on a combination of emotional support, deep exploration, skills building, motivational interviewing, and problem solving. You are always in the driver's seat, and we will work on the issues that are most important to you.

More information on payments and coverage

Our practice, Tau Counseling Services of Maryland, uses an EMR and insurance claims/billing service called Headway. When you schedule with me, you agree to allow us to register you for a client portal on Headway so that we can bill your insurance after each session. Within 24 hours of scheduling with me through ZocDoc, you will receive an email inviting you to confirm your client portal on Headway. Here you will be asked to enter a form of payment to cover deductibles and copays. We will verify that your specific plan covers mental health services or set you up for self-pay. Once that is verified, we will take care of billing your insurance after each session, or, if you are self-pay, we will provide you with a superbill if you are using your out-of-network benefits. We cannot see anyone with Medicare, Medicare Advantage or Medicaid at this time. We are OUT-OF-NETWORK with the BCBS FEDERAL EMPLOYEE PLAN.
