My goal with all my clients is to make them feel comfortable while working with me. My approach is casual, and I often share personal experiences when they can assist my clients. I understand therapy can be tough, so when I sense my clients need a boost, I bring some laughter into the mix. I started in the mental health field in 2012 as a Community-Based Rehabilitation Specialist. It was this opportunity that inspired me to earn my counseling degree. I’ve been practicing as a therapist for about 4.5 years, and it truly feels like my calling. My personal experiences allow me to connect deeply with my clients and their journeys. When I engage with my clients, my initial step is to discover their narrative to grasp their current challenges. I often delve into their childhood experiences, as many of their struggles can be traced back to their upbringing. This insight can empower clients to shift their perspectives, realizing they can unpack the roots of their issues and cultivate new ones, allowing them to develop into resilient and healthy individuals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a laid-back communication style that makes my clients feel at ease during our sessions. I always connect with them at their level and assist them based on their specific needs. My role is to be attuned to what my clients require, offering support and empathy to help them navigate and process what they need to address. My path to becoming a counselor began later in life after I worked as a Community-Based Rehabilitation Specialist. This role ignited my desire to become a professional counselor. While studying, I worked in an outpatient substance use program. This was where I became involved with groups and discovered a surprising passion for aiding those seeking sobriety. Initially, I focused on trauma due to my own experiences, but this new work unveiled an unexpected enthusiasm I never anticipated. I truly relish working with my clients, finding immense joy in aiding their recovery journeys, whether from substance issues or depression. Each day brings rewards as I connect with my clients in this meaningful work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the realm of goal setting, my clients need to establish their objectives within their treatment. My role in this journey is to ensure that these goals are realistic and aligned with what my clients aim to achieve. Goals serve as a foundation, and as we collaborate, they may evolve and adapt as progress is made towards fulfilling them. In our first session, I’ll outline what telehealth entails, clarify my confidentiality limits, and share my expectations. After that, the spotlight shifts to my clients and their reasons for seeking help. It’s essential for me that clients see me as their equal, as I too face life’s challenges. I believe in making space for unexpected life events, as embracing human imperfections is vital for a successful therapy journey. I aim for therapy to feel like a haven, free from judgment.
