Getting to know Raine Arndt-Couch

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working with Open Mind Health. I have nearly two decades of experience working across healthcare, behavioral health, community, and government settings. Throughout my career, I have helped individuals navigate complex medical conditions, chronic illness, grief and loss, life transitions, caregiver stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and the many challenges that arise when life doesn’t unfold as planned. My professional background includes extensive work in healthcare systems, behavioral health, case management, health equity, veteran services, and supporting individuals facing complex medical and psychosocial concerns. This experience allows me to understand the unique emotional impact that health conditions, caregiving demands, systemic barriers, and major life stressors can have on overall well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I know reaching out for support can be a big step, especially when life feels overwhelming, uncertain, or when you’re carrying more than anyone realizes. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I work with adults, older adults, and veterans experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, maternal mental health concerns, caregiver stress, adjustment to illness, and other significant life transitions. My approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. I strive to create a safe space where you can show up as your authentic self, feel genuinely heard, and explore life’s challenges without fear of judgment. As a Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander clinician, I deeply value the importance of relationships, culture, community, and connection. I recognize that healing occurs within the context of our lived experiences and that our identities, family systems, values, and cultural backgrounds all shape how we navigate adversity, resilience, and growth. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based practices, and a holistic, practical approach to help clients develop effective tools for managing emotional distress, life stressors, and difficult transitions. Together, we will work to better understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck, strengthen coping skills, and identify meaningful steps toward the life you want to create. Whether you are navigating a health diagnosis, caregiving responsibilities, loss, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, my goal is to help you build resilience, find clarity, and reconnect with your strengths. I believe therapy should feel both supportive and empowering, offering not only a place to process your experiences but also practical strategies that help you move forward with greater confidence and hope.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to therapy is collaborative, personalized, and goal-oriented. I believe that every person brings unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives, so I work closely with clients to understand not only the challenges they are facing, but also the resources and resilience they already possess. Our first few sessions focus on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, identifying your goals, and exploring the factors that may be contributing to your current struggles. Together, we develop a shared understanding of what is happening and create a plan that feels meaningful and achievable. As therapy progresses, I help clients build insight into patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving while developing practical skills to manage stress, navigate difficult emotions, improve relationships, and cope more effectively with life’s challenges. Depending on your needs, we may explore coping strategies, communication skills, mindfulness practices, emotional regulation techniques, grief processing, adjustment to life transitions, or ways to strengthen resilience and self-compassion. My style is active and engaged. I will listen carefully and provide support, but I will also offer feedback, ask thoughtful questions, and help you identify practical steps toward change. I believe therapy should be both a place for reflection and a place for growth. Throughout our work together, I remain mindful of the broader context of your life, including your health, family relationships, cultural background, personal values, and life experiences. My goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and empowered while building the skills and confidence needed to navigate challenges both inside and outside of therapy. Ultimately, I want clients to leave therapy with greater clarity, stronger coping tools, increased self-awareness, and a deeper sense of confidence in their ability to move forward.
