Raylene Johnson, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Long before I was a licensed therapist, I began my journey early on. Raised in a large family where communication and conflict resolution were daily staples, caring for younger siblings, cousins, and extended family helped me develop problem-solving techniques and early play therapy skills. My first formal psychology class in high school introduced me to psychological testing, personality types, and meditation, sparking my further education in psychotherapy. Education I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Fullerton. There, I studied sensation and perception, abnormal psychology, psychology of aging, learning and memory, psychology of sexual behavior, and more. Practicum and field placements gave me experience with geriatric and early childhood populations. I completed a Master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy at the University of Phoenix, gaining clinical experience in assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, and family systems. Experience I applied this knowledge in a group home setting focused on reintegrating young adults, addressing domestic violence, human trafficking, self-esteem, and anger management. During my internship, I worked with teaching staff, school districts, regional centers, in-home ABA services, and other providers, allowing me to see clients through various lenses and collaborate with multiple supports. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I supervised behavioral consultants and conducted behavioral assessments for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I also mentored Associate Marriage and Family Therapists at Fullerton Unified School District as a Mental Health Counseling Specialist. I enjoyed working with children, adolescents, and adults, helping families and teaching staff foster lasting growth.
