Psychotherapist

I have been a mental health clinician for almost eighteen years and have been trained and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR works best for clients with developmental trauma or adult trauma (abuse or neglect or some other type of victimization experience). EMDR may also help you better process daily living problems. I am also trained in parts work, hypnosis, mindfulness techniques (like deep breathing and meditation), Cognitive Behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and emotional processing. I work well with LGBTQ populations as I identify as queer myself, however, I work with heterosexual clients too. All of my techniques and theoretical models are based in trauma informed work and are evidenced based (based upon research that tells us what really works to help people). I also work with adult children of alcoholics. I see myself as a teacher, and through psycho-education will teach you how to become aware of your feelings and talk about them and regulate them. This will help if you feel emotionally out-of-control. I will help you to understand how your thinking and feelings may influence some of your behaviors and or problems in living. I also assign homework, books and or watching videos, journaling so that you can begin to get know yourself better. I am also Jewish and see that as key part of my spiritual identity as well as important in my own on-going recovery, as a clean and sober alcoholic. I have been sober and clean for almost thirty-nine years. I too grew up in a very dysfunctional family, so I know how painful facing some of those problems can be. However, I also how much freedom you can gain, once you are no longer tethered to the past.
