Getting to know Rebecca Nelson

My goal is to make the therapeutic experience as user friendly as possible. I genuinely enjoy working with individuals who have a desire to learn more about themselves and improve their sense of self. Individuals who are looking for support in terms of relationships, emotional regulation, self-actualization, impacts of trauma, grief/loss, life transitions problem-solving and need help finding meaning in life experiences.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a humanistic, person-centered, trauma-informed approach to therapy. I am relationship oriented; strength based and utilize positive psychology. I am a Certified Grief Counselor as well as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. I am fairly laid back. I love to laugh, joke and am playful. I have a great respect for the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek help. I believe that the sense of connection and sense security are the two most powerful aspects of the therapeutic relationship. I strive to be genuine, sincere, compassionate, collaborative and non-judgmental.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I encourage self-exploration: self-acceptance, identifying personal values, recognizing strong emotions such as guilt/shame/anger/hurt, processing trauma/grief/loss, recognizing resilience, learning self-compassion will lead to feelings of empowerment. Finding opportunities to feel connected with others. Creating positive emotions, find meaning, building confidence, and exercising one's right to choose. My hope is for sessions to be engaging, validating, collaborative and supportive.
