Getting to know Renee Hampton

Therapy is a major step toward leading a fulfilling life. Congratulations on investing in yourself, in this way, during this phase of your life. I believe self-discovery is never-ending and is a fundamental component of personal growth. I specialize in working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, and stress-related disorders. I take a client-centered and collaborative approach to therapy. What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy. You present your experiences and challenges, and we work on strategies to help you move forward with a sense of confidence. Based on your individual needs, I may use an eclectic approach of various evidence-based treatment modalities. This provides flexibility to adapt techniques based on presenting needs and the identified goal(s). I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify and reshape unhelpful thought patterns. I also provide strategies that promote the self-regulation of unhealthy feelings and emotions. Do you feel as though you are being faced with one roadblock after another? Do you feel that you have taken a detour and your navigation system no longer shows your location? Do you feel that you are at a standstill with no idea of where to go? Life can be challenging at various stages. During any phase of life, anxiety and depression can manifest due to life events that trigger a stress-related response. I am available to young adults facing challenges with adapting to life as an adult, and adults facing challenges with work and life balance. I am also available to adults who are experiencing challenges in a current relationship or the ending of a relationship. No matter the situation, adjusting and coping to change can be challenging, even if the challenge is with oneself due to low self-esteem or a lack of self-confidence. I will assist you with identifying where you are currently, how that is affecting your quality of life, and what your vision is for your future. Together, we will chart a new course that you will be able to navigate with confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I practice active and reflective listening. Your presenting needs are the focal point of every session. I prioritize open communication and refer to clarification to ensure an accurate understanding. I foster an environment of empathy and unconditional positive regard. In those instances in which you find it challenging to identify your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, I am intentional about providing you time to reflect and process. My journey to becoming a licensed provider in the field of mental health began with a deep curiosity about human behavior. After the completion of my undergraduate degree, I began my graduate studies in education, as did my mother and several of her siblings. At the onset of my graduate training, I observed student behaviors that interfered with establishing an environment conducive to learning. I determined I wanted to understand the reason for the behavior and, in some way, be a change agent for the teachers as well, in the hopes of making their job as educators a little less stressful. This changed the trajectory of my educational goals. I made the change from the goal of being an educator to that of becoming a counselor. To this very day, I have no regrets. I find this work rewarding. I have had the pleasure of seeing the positive change therapy can make for those individuals who desire change and are willing to invest their time in doing the work. It is truly amazing. I find great joy in being a part of the process.
