“Renese has been such an amazing benefit to my mental health and physical well-being. I sought her out initially for grief counseling and now I’ll never leave. I end all my sessions felling cared for, validated, challenged, supported, and encouraged. She is caring, compassionate, kind, and most importantly real! Talking to her is like talking to your best friend - she tells you the absolute truth, gives you the hard facts, but also gives you the tools you need to improve. I respect her so much and I appreciate her immensely! I tell people all the time that I will share her, but I also kind of want to gatekeep! ”

Getting to know Renese Johnson

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Edward's University and extensive experience working with a diverse group of individuals. My approach is a person-centered, eclectic style that fosters self-acceptance and empowerment. I frequently use CBT and solution-focused techniques to assist in facilitating healthy change. Therapy is about you-your freedom and the healing that occurs through self-exploration, understanding, finding meaning, and deepening insight. My role is to help you begin to think, feel, and understand yourself more deeply, empowering lasting change. I believe each person has the answers within to make the desired changes that bring peace, joy, and healing but may not know how to access them. Together, we will work to uncover the answers you are seeking. I look forward to working with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My experience includes working with children, adults, teenagers, couples and families. Some of the populations and issues I have worked with are victims of abuse and assault, depression, anxiety, peripartum and postpartum disorders, adjustment to parenthood (men and women), relationship difficulties, and bipolar disorder, among many others. I also have experience working with teenagers in the juvenile justice system, individuals struggling with substance abuse, and children being fostered and/or adopted.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will send you assessments to complete before our first appointment, which are used to help with a diagnosis, and then during the first session we can get to know each other and I will spend most of that session trying to understand your situation, history, goals, and you. The first session is also a good time to let me know of any previous diagnoses, whether you agree or disagree with them, prior experiences with therapists and what you liked or didn't like about them, and preferences you may have regarding therapy.

Therapy is a crucial piece of whole health care. Many people fear or avoid it because they don't understand the value of lookin into the mind as well as the body. Renese has honed her skills to create a caring, informative, living and deeply personal experiece for each of her clients.
