Psychotherapist
MO
Hi, I'm Rhonda Finch, and I look forward to working with you! I earned my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Nazarene University in 2008. I started my private practice in 2011 with a License in Professional Counseling and gained the National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential in 2012. I hold licenses in Nebraska (LIMHP), Missouri (LPC), Oklahoma (LPC), and Washington (LMHC). I've had the privilege of journeying with clients for over 13 years. As a clinician, I believe the most valuable tool in therapy is the collaborative relationship between therapist and client. I work from what is often called a psychodynamic or relational psychodynamic approach. In therapy, our tasks are to build a trusting relationship, explore and understand your beliefs and feelings on their deepest levels, examine how your history and experiences have shaped those beliefs, and then address how these beliefs have either helped or limited you. I'd love to help you get where you desire to be!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use an assertive communication style in my sessions with you, expressing thoughts and feelings openly and directly, while respecting your needs and boundaries, fostering a safe and trusting environment for open dialogue. My approach to therapy recognizes that much of our emotional suffering is rooted in the struggle to reconcile our unexpected and painful experiences (both past and present) with our desire for a fulfilling and happy life. At times, we find that the ways we previously made sense of life no longer fit. These difficult seasons face us all with the challenge and opportunity to find and create meaning in spite of chaos. Even in the midst of sorrow we can discover how to embrace the moments of peace and deepen our capacity for joy. Through the therapeutic encounter, I seek to cultivate a supportive environment that facilitates the gaining of deeper self-awareness while collaborating toward more authentic and satisfying engagement in relationships with others.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Making the initial call for counseling can be quite intimidating. I try to make that process as painless as possible. I practice talk therapy and Individual therapy appointments can last anywhere from 45-60 minutes. Your first session is primarily for information gathering providing me the opportunity to gather important information about your history, symptoms, and goals for therapy, which is different from a traditional therapy session. This information will be used to develop your treatment plan. Please be prepared to spend the entire 60 minutes if necessary. I may have an appointment immediately following yours, so please be punctual to ensure we can best utilize your appointment time. I actively collaborate with you in the goal-setting process to help identify your needs and strengths while thoroughly assessing your unique situation using the "SMART" method, which means making goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound; this ensures goals are clear, trackable, realistic, meaningful to you, and have a defined deadline for completion, allowing for effective progress monitoring and achievement in therapy. I prioritize your goals based on their urgency and importance while adjusting goals as you progress and your needs evolve throughout therapy.
