Getting to know Rhonda Kontner
I'm Rhonda Kontner, a New York-based Licensed Mental Health Counselor serving clients via telehealth. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College, City University of New York. My focus is on adults with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, as well as providing pathways to personal growth and elevated self-esteem. I also address child and family behavioral issues and relationships, including family separations, applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist patients.
CBT is my primary therapy model, and I believe it's crucial that we become partners in your treatment, defining and adjusting goals as needed. I also advise on healthy lifestyles and mindfulness. I have frequently helped adults diagnosed with ADHD later in life establish systems for optimal function at work and in relationships. Additionally, I support students with special needs and provide parental guidance during family challenges.
I maintain a calm, caring, and direct communication style, striving to be non-judgmental. My aim is for patients to feel better through therapy, with improvements extending to all areas of their lives. I am available in times of crisis.
Our initial session focuses on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. Everyone is unique, and I tailor my approach accordingly. Subsequent sessions may explore your history to identify potentially impactful past issues.
With over 20 years as a school psychologist and informal therapy experience with friends and family, I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor 20 years ago, primarily working with adults. During the pandemic, I focused on assisting patients, colleagues, and friends with anxiety and depression. As an adult with ADHD who has developed effective strategies, I am well-equipped to help patients create their own systems for success.
