Dr. Richard Cox, PhD

Psychotherapist
UT
Hi there, I'm Richard! My name is Richard Cox. I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a Ph.D. in Counseling from The University of Akron. I also hold a master's degree from Walsh University and a bachelor's degree from California State University, San Bernardino. My approach I use an integrated approach to therapy, drawing from one or more models depending on the client's needs. For example, with couples, I use a couples therapy model; for trauma, I apply Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to support recovery. My focus While my experience spans many client needs, my primary focus is on mood disorders-particularly bipolar disorder-anxiety, ADHD, and work with couples and families. My communication style I strive to create a sense of safety for clients, understand their therapy goals, and dedicate myself to helping them achieve those goals. My journey to mental healthcare Before counseling, I worked several years as a chemist, which I often described as fun. Eventually, I changed career paths, and mental health counseling has been a wonderful opportunity to help people by truly getting to know them and focusing on vital changes they want to make. Over 25 years, I have found the work deeply meaningful and rewarding, witnessing clients accomplish their goals. This work is more than fun-it is filled with heartfelt connections, emotions, and a profound sense of wonder at their courage. It has also deepened my personal compassion, which I consider priceless. My goals for you I ask why you have come to counseling and what you want your world to look like as a result of our work together. My first session with you The first session focuses entirely on your needs and expectations.
